French Cream Frosting

 

2 T cornstarch

1 ½ cup milk

½ cup butter

½ shortening

1 cup sugar

1 t vanilla

¼ t salt

 

Combine cornstarch and milk; cook over low heat until thick.  Cool in pan of ice water or refrigerator.  Cream butter, shortening, then add sugar gradually.   Beat until light & fluffy.  Add vanilla & salt.  Add cooled milk mixture to shortening; beat until the consistency of whipped cream.
